PATRICIA PICKETT

Patricia Pickett was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. She spent her childhood growing up closely with her older brother as her mother raised them on her own while working two jobs. Patricia found her interest in books at a young age, beginning in elementary school after her fourth grade teacher introduced her class to creative writing and books like Are you there God it’s me Margaret, A wrinkle in time and The Chronicles of Narnia.
From her exposure to reading and writing, Patricia spent the next few years putting together poems and short stories and reading anything she could get her hands on. As junior high started, that all changed for Patricia as her interests in books and poems started to dwindle away and were replaced by hanging out with friends and running in the wrong circles, that’s when she began to loose interest in literature altogether. By the time High School started Patricia was completely caught up in the streets and a pen and a pad or her favorite book became a distant memory.
By the time 1998 rolled around, Patricia was raising three children on her own and had been to more funerals then she could count. The most heart wrenching of them all was the loss of one of her best friends. Through that loss Patricia realized she was watching most of her peers become victims to either death or prison and her sadness begin to overcome her reality and thus opened the door for her future as she begin to pen her sadness through poetry.
Just when the darkness seemed to be lifting, Patricia suffered a horrible turn of events and found herself fighting for her life as she was diagnosed with Cancer. After spending two days in the intensive care unit and undergoing a major surgery, which changed her as a person physically and mentally, she had no choice left but to turn to God and her notebook. Through a close friends encouragement, Patricia started to share her poetry with others through poetry websites and open spoken forum’s and by 2005 she had a full book of poetry and decided to self publish her first collection of work entitled “Green Eyes Open”.
Since then, Patricia has been hard at work penning her first novel entitled ‘Hearts Never Lie’ which is a love story based on characters that everyone should find some familiarity in. Patricia continues to write beautiful poetry and is concentrating on bringing to life her second full-length novel along with raising her children and enjoying everyday like it’s her last.
