ANJEL

Anjel grew up in the suburbs of East Hartford, CT. As a child, she was shy and always had her nose in a book. Despite her quiet demeanor, she held a strong passion for music and loved to sing. Her love of the arts helped her break out of her shell a bit and at twelve she met a person that would help her grow more than she could ever know, her best friend Chantii. Chantii shared her poetry and stories with her friend and showcased a rawness and honesty that was unlike any other. Up until then, Anjel was into classic books and the occasional horror story or two. She also didn’t know a thing about poetry other than what she’d read in school, but it was one day at the library that changed her whole outlook. That was the day that the two companions found “Flyy Girl”. This book wasn’t full of fancy jargon like the others. Anjel felt that it was one of the realest books she’d ever read and it opened her eyes to an entirely new genre in the literary world.
At the age of sixteen, Anjel combined her love of song and reading when she began to pen poetry, songs and stories of her own. She never really realized how much of an outlet her writing would become until she went through a tumultuous relationship and numerous conflicts threatened to end the very friendship that helped her flourish. Unable to express herself verbally and feeling she had no one to turn to who would understand, she wrote every emotion down. Her work became a sort of therapy and unbeknownst to her, the strength that she gained from expressing herself would help her escape the physical and mental abuse she endured from her then boyfriend.
Anjel and Chantii then mended their friendship and Anjel continued to cultivate her craft. She only allowed her close friends and family to read her work. She was told repeatedly that she possessed a great talent for written word, but she never really listened. It wasn’t until one year ago that she took a chance and started posting her poetry and stories on the web. Now, at the young age of twenty-three, she feels she’s been through the drama of someone twice her age and has many stories to tell. She’s ready to share her words with the world.
